RATIONALE – (150 words approx)
I have learned a number of key skills needed to create professional journalistic content. I covered professional journalistic practice including how to structure an article and write succinctly, as well as how to produce multimedia content such as videos, photographs and audio bulletins. This has been mentioned in more detail in my context research.
My FMP will provide me with the opportunity to strengthen my work in music journalism, which is something I am greatly interested in. Music is incredibly important to me and getting the chance to work on a topic that I have a strong passion for makes this task both enjoyable and allows me to challenge myself, whilst still enjoying the work I am completing.
PROJECT CONCEPT (200 words approx)
The genre of my FMP is alternative music. I will be producing a variety of multimedia content ranging from written interview pieces to a feature video about festival culture. The design of my work will be very minimalistic with a set 4 colours running consistently throughout. I have chosen the publication name #1. I have chosen this name as it connotes number one in the charts, relating to music, as well as being the number one or first place to come for all things music related. My target audience is both genders, 16-25 year olds. More details of the design and target audience from this project can be found here: FMP Proposal. I will continue using Twitter and Instagram to share my content and other content of the same genre. I will research more into the different types of content, not just written pieces, produced by similar publications to my own, such as NME and Q, as well as using social media to source potential stories. I will research mainly by using the internet, however will gather primary research from people in my target audience age range to gather opinions via questionnaires and focus groups.
EVALUATION (150 words approx)
I will be creating two documents to evaluate my FMP. The first of which is my production diary – an ongoing document in which I will keep track of all the work I’m doing. In this I will be including any problems I come across and their solutions, as well as evaluating my time management and organisation skills. I will also record any research I do and feedback I get from questionnaires and focus groups, as these will influence any decisions and changes I make, which will also be recorded in the production diary.
The second document will be a formal evaluation piece in which I will reflect more on the overall process and the end documents in comparison to what I initially proposed to create. I will be able to speak about whether I have created what I intended to do when stating my aims and ideas, or if I haven’t done this, as well as going into the reasons why and what I could’ve done better throughout the whole project to achieve certain things.
